Round Screenoll Umbrella Stand in Cast Iron

Cast iron Patio Umbrella Base

If you like to spend a lot of time relaxing on the patio in the day time, then one thing you will surely need is a patio umbrella. If the sun is not out, it does not matter, but if you want and need protection from the sun at any time of the day, then an umbrella is an essential. One exception is if the patio is adjacent to the house, in which case an awning can do a great job without need of an umbrella.

As anyone knows who has been blown off their feet carrying an umbrella on a windy day, wind can be a big problem with any umbrella. So, with a large patio umbrella, you have to be especially well prepared. You can buy the best patio umbrella in the world, but if it gets blown away in a gale it is not a lot of use to you.

That may be extreme, but you really do need to anchor down your patio umbrella. If it is the type that fits in a patio table, then the anchorage will depend on the weight of the table. If, on the other hand, it is free standing, than anchorage requires special attention. That's where the patio umbrella stand comes in. However, that is not the end of the story. If you choose an umbrella stand that is not up to the job, then your umbrella will not be anchored sufficiently.
The market cast iron patio umbrella stand featured here has one immediate quality you definitely need, and that is weight. Even so, there are four weight options depending on the diameter of the umbrella. These solid cast iron stands can be for a 6'D umbrella, a 17 lb or greater stand; for a 7' - 7-1/2'D umbrella, a 26-36 lb stand; for an 8'-10'D umbrella, a 40-50 lb stand, and for an 11'D umbrella, a 70-90 lb stand. If you are in a wind prone area, then it is best to opt for one weight higher.
Many umbrella stands are purely functional, but we selected this cast iron example because of its obvious attractiveness. Plus, if you have wrought iron patio furniture, it is a great choice because of the distinctive match with your furniture. Made from heavy cast iron, this stand is powder coated for rust resitance and is very durable. The scroll work is very pretty and decorative.
